DOI Reference Linking Made Easy for Libraries

CrossRef® is an organization of publishers cooperating to make hyperlinked references in scholarly journals a reality. Over 400 publishers have agreed on technical standards and have begun to build a system which already contains links to over 3 million articles. Libraries have been eligible to use this state-of-the-art linking system without charge. Over 10,000 journal titles are represented in the crossref holdings database. CrossRef maintains a list of all publishers currently participating here.

CrossRef uses digital object identifiers (doi's) to uniquely identify articles. doi's are converted to web links by the CNRI handle system for high performance. This architecture results in archival quality, authoritative and flexible links.

Software Support for CrossRef Affiliate Libraries from Openly Informatics

Openly's 1Cate CrossRef Module brings the CrossRef resource a step closer to the user. 1Cate CrossRef Module includes

  1. An OpenURL linking interface. Retrieve links transparently from CrossRef.
  2. Transparent password authentication.
  3. A native handle client. Converts doi's to url's through the CNRI handle system for higher performance and library control over multiple resolution.
  4. Holdings table updated monthly.
Library Affiliation with CrossRef®
Openly Informatics does not provide access to CrossRef, we only provide software to help libraries provide access to the CrossRef system. In order to use this software, your library must become a library affiliate of CrossRef, and you must agree to abide by the rules and regulations set forward in the affiliate agreements See http://www.crossref.org/ for more details

Obtaining 1Cate CrossRef Module
The 1Cate CrossRef Module is included in Openly's Hosted 1Cate service. Openly Informatics is also available for support and custom development to support all aspects of linking in the library environment. 1Cate CrossRef Module is available for OEM Licensing.
